TRANSOL enables the design, calculation and optimization of solar thermal systems. Through a user-friendly interface, users benefit from the power and precision of TRNSYS dynamic calculation engine. This tool comes from an ambitious project between AIGUASOL and the French research centre CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) started in 2004.
NOTE: The Educational License allows 10 users with the Educational version and 1 user (teacher) with a full commercial version. Educational versions expire in 1 year. Besides, the educational version has some limitations highlighted in red below. P>

Worldwide weather data and an extensive product database
TRANSOL features an extensive worldwide weather database (over 8,000 weather stations) and a comprehensive database of solar collectors, storage tanks, boilers, heat exchangers and absorption machines.
NOTE: The educational version contains only 12 meteorological files (four Spanish cities, three French, one in U.K., one in Greece, two in Italy and one in the U.S.)
Applications for DHW, heating, cooling, pools and industrial processes
TRANSOL includes a variety of solar thermal system configurations (more than 144) for domestic hot water, heating, pools, solar cooling systems and industrial processes.
NOTE: The educational version includes all configurations included in the full commercial version.
Detailed energy demand profiles
TRANSOL allows very detailed consumer profiles, even on an hourly basis. For an easier planning and design, standard profiles for different applications can be selected and customized.
TRANSOL features a useful building module for heating and cooling loads calculation. Define your type of construction, building orientation, windows, infiltrations and even shading elements, to size optimal solar heating and/or cooling systems.
NOTE: The educational version has limitations when defining energy demand profiles for domestic hot water. It only allows the use of standard profiles. These profiles can be edited. It is not possible to define an hourly basis profile demand nor import an external profile file. Calculation for heating and cooling demands has no limitations.
Powerful calculation engine, TRNSYS
Once all parameters are configured, TRANSOL calls TRNSYS to launch a dynamic simulation and report results. TRANSOL 3.1 has been optimized to reduce calculation times and the result is a much faster tool.
Solar thermal systems optimization
The multivariable analysis tool easily allows to optimize solar systems. Users may compare system performance with different collector models, inclination, azimuth or storage volume, running simultaneously a large number of simulations to find optimal sizing.
NOTE: Not enabled in the educational version.
Detailed performance and energy reports
Simulation results are presented in detailed EXCEL reports including: general system information, energy demand, system energy yields and balance, energy efficiency, energy consumption, system parasite energy losses and energy losses analysis.
